School, job search, laundry & repairs!

Today marks Scott's 3rd day of class--Greek I. Alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon....omega! Yes, I'm sort of learning right along with him, not exactly by choice. He has a Greek New Testament, that, amazingly is written all in Greek! Wow! Scott is enjoying it so far, as it is tapping into another part of his brain matter, and he's enjoying the challenge, however, cramming a 16 week Greek class into 3 weeks, could bring anyone to their knees! Each day has become increasingly difficult. The blessing is that everyone in his class (11) is in the same boat, and he's found a few really great study partners. I would not consider myself a Greek widow...yet.

The job search is slow, but we are certain that something will come along that will be just what we need. I spend each morning job hunting while Scott's in class, and then some later in the day as well. Talking to folks around campus too has pointed me in some other directions I would not have thought of by myself. In fact, while doing laundry this morning, I met our neighbor, Bwlenka (from Zambia, Africa) who works for the community college in Portland and works to place students in jobs! So I guess I've now got some "inside track" info, AND, she & her husband worked with a team from Vineyard Columbus & Dan Frantz to get a mission project started there at Vineyard World Outreach in Zambia!! What are the odds! Her husband knows Rich Nathan and Dan Frantz....we're going to have fun getting to know them--after we learn how to pronounce their names!

Ok, so my non-paying job consists of keeping the maintenance department moving along in fixing a bunch of stuff in our unit, keeping the Housing director informed on how that's going, and preventing sessions of "going postal" at WalMart EVERY time we've gone there and we have trouble using our credit card, debit card, greeting card, you name it! We're not even exaggerating on this one. It's as if the WalMart greeter is part of the FBI, and they have our faces memorized (and on camera), so when they see us walk in the store, a quick call is made on the walkie-talkie and "all systems are go" to bring high frustration, aggrevation and high blood pressure before letting us out of the store. I'm not sure what we've done to deserve this. This has also happened at the grocery store every time we've paid with anything other than cash...maybe THAT's the ticket!!

Well, that's just a little taste of humor for you, as well as an example of the continual character building that is occuring for us. God is STILL good, and we're still very glad to be here! We also miss all of you!

More later, gotta get back to looking for a job!

Blessings!

p.s. thanks for those of you who leave comments, it's like getting MAIL!

Greek N.T. rocks!!! when it comes to learning the verbs, just remember Mr. Potato Head! if you need me to explain that one, email me and I will try to elaborate. To my knowledge I am the inventor of the Potato Head analogy for Greek....

Thanks for doing such a great job at keeping us updated. It's awesome you met someone who knows people from VCC!

We'll pray not only for His leading in the job search, but also smooth sailing each time you try to use something other than cash!

Love and miss you both so much.
