Multnomah Falls

Admittedly, it has been awhile since the last post. With Greek 1 ending last Friday and having a one week break until fall semester started, we decided to do some exploring! Last Saturday morning was beautiful so we headed to Multnomah Falls. We had visited here quickly back in March when we visited the seminary and were anxious to hike to the top of the falls (620 ft).

There is a bridge about 100 feet from the base where most people congregate and take photos; can't blame them--it's beautiful. But we continued on. The sign read, "Multnomah Falls, 1 mile," so I told Scott "no big deal." It was a little ways until we reached the first of the trail signs indicating how far we had ahead of us. When I read the first one that said, "Switchback 1 of 11," I thought it couldn't be true. Ha! Silly me! Indeed it was true.

The views were incredible, the paved path narrow, and many places did not have railings to the steep landscape below. (John Fowler would have been rather unnerved by this time!). With it being a 2-way trail, there were definitely times that traffic made it somewhat scary as the people heading down passed us. Needless to say, we weren't terrible interested in taking pictures while on the trail!

Scott & I both were huffing and sweating the whole way up. By switchback 7 or 8, he REALLY wanted to stop, but a few other hikers convinced him it wasn't much farther before the trail leveled out & went DOWNhill. We're both so glad we stuck it out, as it would have been a shame to have come to the falls, prepared to hike & not make it.

Here are a few of the pictures we took:
