From the Redwood Forest......

Hello Out There!

Remember that old song, "This Land Is Your Land"? Well, we just placed ourselves in that song. It is Spring Break, and Karen and I took a short weekend trip (courtesy of Uncle Sam, gotta love the IRS!) to Crescent City, CA and to Redwood country. You ever wonder what it would be like to be in a scene from The Lord of the Rings? Try going to the Stout Grove in Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park. I swear I saw Treebeard. I had heard about these gargantuan trees all my life, but to see them up close was amazing. Average heights of almost 300 ft. tall trees. As you'll see from the pictures, they're not skinny either. They are also very old. The bigger trees (over 200 ft.) are at least 250 years old.

We both got to see some other things we had never seen before. We saw a herd of elk (pictured). I also got within about 50 feet of some slumbering sea lions (also pictured), who proceeded to start mugging for the camera and barking as soon as they noticed me. Hwy. 101 is an amazing drive from Crescent City to Eureka. We got some shots of the coastline as well. There are a couple of pictures from Eureka (a castle-like house), and a picture of a vacation-house on the bay. Overall Eureka and Crescent City were pretty ugly, but what God put in between was truly amazing!
